Burning Churches

Burn down your own church
not that of others.
Set free your symbols,
and let them return.

Allow your altar,
to a neighbour needing a table.
Pass on your candles
to those in a dark home.
Donate your robes
to those cold and shivering.
Melt your statues to gold
for others to spend.

Then from your own ruins,
set out,
with nothing
but a light step.

And let the heart be opened,
to the sacred
in all that lives,
outside
these great walls,
of where once stood
such holy ground.
