Cartography

Man makes the maps
but the territories, well,
they make themselves.

Land changes, maps
get sold and stay still.
How to capture something
which is always moving.

Think of a person
as their own beach.
The waves break
on the moving sandbar,
or calcified reef
that lies beneath.
It’s power and expression
depending on storms
that cannot be seen,
depending on tides
that cannot be controlled.

Who do I meet,
when I meet someone.
For I am changing
and so are they.

Always.
